5 Holiday Things to Do in Connecticut With Kids

The magic of the holiday season grows even more incredible when seen through the eyes of a child. It intensifies the thrill of the holidays as kids get excited over seeing houses decked out with lights, helping put up the Christmas tree, and going to pick out presents. So this year, think about trying out some of the area’s best activities that the entire family can enjoy. From parades to light displays, here are five holiday things to do in Connecticut with kids this Christmas season.

Glow Hartford

Twinkling lights are one of the best and most festive parts of Christmas, and you can see a million of them at Glow Hartford at the Connecticut Convention Center from November 25 to January 1. Children can participate in a scavenger hunt, see live entertainment, and have their photos taken under the lights. Your family can spend the whole day as there are also snacks and drinks available for purchase, and you can even do some holiday shopping while you’re there. Glow is the perfect way to experience many aspects of the season all under one roof.

Santa Made Me Do It Fun Run

Usually, kids claim that their brother, sister, or friend made them do something to share the blame when getting in trouble. Still, Santa encourages families to participate in a fun run on Saturday, December 3, in Bethlehem. The Santa Made Me Do It event includes a 5k road race, a 2-mile walk, and a short fun run for children. The whole family can participate at whatever level you’d like. It’s a great way to start the day while burning off some energy and all those extra holiday cookie calories while you’re at it!

Cirque Du Soleil Corteo

Amaze the whole family differently this holiday season by heading to see Cirque Du Soleil Corteo at the XL Center. The show runs from December 15 to 18 and is appropriate for folks of all ages. See acrobats perform high-flying feats and coordinated stunts as they tell a story throughout the evening. It’s definitely a performance that your kids will remember and talk about for years!

Fantasy of Lights at Lighthouse Point Park

Where better to see a light display than a lighthouse? That duo is precisely what you’ll encounter during the Fantasy of Lights! Pay by the carload to drive through a 1-mile stretch of lights as you listen to your favorite Christmas music. This event has been a family favorite for almost 30 years and takes about 15 minutes to traverse. Funds support the Goodwill of Southern New England, so heading to this light display is a feel-good decision for the family.

Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular

Move over Macy’s Parade — Connecticut has its own balloon-filled holiday parade of wonder. Save the date of Saturday, November 20, to line the streets of Stamford as you watch floats, bands, and helium characters roam the streets during the Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular. Arrive early and claim a spot to watch. Bring blankets and fill a thermos with hot chocolate to keep cozy and warm as you celebrate the holidays.
