When it comes to an all-in-one activity that suits all ages, Glow Hartford tops the list. For example, the ladies can shop at the artisan and vendor market while the guys sit and listen to live entertainment. Grandparents can take the kids on a scavenger hunt to find Santa’s perfect gift, and then everyone can gather to grab a bite to eat together on-site. But, of course, the highlight is the namesake glow from a million twinkle lights. From structures you can walk through to various lit-up photo ops, there truly is something for everyone as that festive vibe fills the air at Glow Hartford.
A Christmas Carol
Head just 20 minutes outside Hartford to Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill Estate in Middletown. From December 2 to 18, the East Haddam Stage Company will present the beloved tale of A Christmas Carol. Not only is it an immersive experience, but all audience members will receive delicious hot chocolate at the show. Wadsworth Mansion is also hosting a Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, December 4, so be prepared to cross a few names off your shopping list.
The Nutcracker: Then & Now
On November 26 or December 2, head to 224 EcoSpace to experience The Nutcracker: Then and Now, presented by Ballet Hartford. View excerpts from the tale of Clara and her precious nutcracker, and participate in a historical lecture about this classic masterpiece. You can also bring canned goods to help the ballet raise funds and food for the local nonprofit Hands on Hartford.
If you love live music, Holiday Pops by the Ocean State Pops Orchestra will be a treat! Listen to a 60-piece orchestra play holiday tunes from true classics to more upbeat, modern music. The Woodstock Academy Hill Singers open the event, so feel free to sing along quietly to start the Christmas season on December 3.
Taking place in downtown Hartford in the spacious grand hall at Union Station, Winterfair is a family favorite that folks look forward to each winter. As a mecca for Christmas shopping, the event features over 110 artisans, vendors, and craftspeople selling their wares. They’ll be set up from Small Business Saturday through December 23, and kids may even see Santa while they’re there!
