Top 8 Holiday Things to Do with Kids in Saskatoon
The holidays are upon us, and that means that there are a plethora of meals to plan, presents to buy, and charities to support. But wait! Before you get caught up in all of the “things to do” that accompany the season, be sure to plan a bit of fun – especially if you have children in your life. From festivals to Santa sightings, here is our countdown of the top 8 places to head with the young ones in Saskatoon at Christmas-time.

8. Saskatoon’s Greatest Gifts for Kids
Part of the holiday season is giving gifts, and that is exactly what Saskatoon’s Greatest Gifts for Kids is all about! This is more of an opportunity to be charitable rather than a children’s activity, but shopping for kids in need and taking your new, unwrapped toy to this event at Lawson Heights Mall is a fabulous way to get into the true spirit of the season by thinking of others who are in need.

7. King’s Castle Midtown Holiday Party
Potty-trained kids ages 2 and up can enjoy this fun event! The Holiday Party features familiar children’s characters, crafts, treats, storytime, and glitter tattoos (temporary, of course!). The best part is that parents can sneak away and get in some holiday shopping while their kids are well taken care of enjoying a bit of festive fun!

6. Holiday Hoopla
Do your kids love music? Then this live concert geared towards children is perfect! Children’s entertainer Sylvia Chave decks the halls with a fun, movement-centric concert just for the young ones. Holiday Hoopla is a unique experience that they will remember throughout the season. Santa, his reindeer, and cookies will also be on-site – yum!

5. Saskatoon Santa Shuffle
Adults can shuffle in this annual 5k Fun Run while the kiddos participate in the 1km Elf Walk. No matter their pace families can enjoy this annual event together. The best part is that dressing up is encouraged! Have fun getting together crazy Christmas costumes like Rudolph, Mrs. Claus, or the 3 Wise Men as you prepare to burn off a few pre-Christmas calories at the Saskatoon Santa Shuffle.

4. Snack’n with Santa
A buffet lunch is included in this visit-with-Santa style event. Selections include hot dogs, chicken fingers, fries, cookies, juice, and coffee. Don’t worry – there will be veggies there, too! Mr. Claus has a gift for each participant, and other characters, such as princesses and superheroes will be on hand at Snack’n with Santa. Other activities include face painting, coloring, and writing letters to the big guy in red.

3. Yuletide Shimmer
The German Cultural Center focuses on a traditional holiday as they host a Christmas market. Adults can shop and children can experience kid-friendly activities such as visiting with Anna and Elsa, taking holiday photos, and playing in a dedicated toddler play area for the littles. Yuletide Shimmer offers family fun differently this season!

2. Christmas Carnival
A ticket to the Christmas Carnival is one of the best tickets in town! Arrive hungry as the entrance fee includes food, such as hot dogs, pizza, and fries along with drinks like juice boxes, coffee, and tea. The carnival also offers 6 different kid-centric games (each with a prize!), entertainment such as juggling, and photos with holiday characters like Rudolph, Frosty, and the elves. Be sure to check out the Festival of Trees and the exhibits at the Western Development Museum while you are there!

And #1! Christmas Glow Saskatoon
If having a winter wonderland indoors seems too good to be true – it’s not! That is exactly what happens when guests visit Christmas Glow Saskatoon. Adults and kids alike will enjoy light displays, live entertainment, and interactive hanging lights that make the perfect backdrop for an adorable photo.
There are also a ton of child-centric attractions such as bouncy reindeer, visits with Santa, and playing on the Gingerbread House Playground. Adults can cross items off of their gift list by shopping at the artisan and boutique market booths, and families can enjoy the many food and drink options. Bonus: there is a licensed bar with seasonal beverages for those who are of age.
While you are there, don’t forget to let the little ones stroll through the light tunnel and sit on the LED swings. Christmas Glow Saskatoon is truly a magical place to be during the holidays as they offer a bit of something for everyone.
No matter what you choose, be sure to plan ahead to include some family fun along the way. Want an extra tip? Sing carols and look at lights while you are on your way home to make your time even more festive.
