5 Christmas Charity Campaigns in Toronto

Part of the Christmas season is doing things for others. Perhaps you enjoy purchasing gifts for others or always bake treats to show your thankfulness. This year, consider joining one of the Christmas charity campaigns in Toronto. You can volunteer, donate to a cause, or participate in a fundraising event. Commit to doing what you can to help others through what could be a difficult season without aid from their community. Here are charity events in and around Toronto to pique your interest.

The Sun Christmas Fund

Spearheaded by The Toronto Sun, The Sun Christmas Fund helps kids with their accessibility and inclusion needs. It was founded in 1983 and has raised over $1.7 million since then. Although you can donate all year round, their annual charity event takes place on Sunday, December 11th, and the $10 entry fee goes to help disabled children. Kids can meet Santa, get their faces painted, and play on inflatables at this fun, annual holiday fundraising campaign.

Toy Mountain

CTV and Ontario’s Salvation Army are again partnering for their Christmas campaign, Toy Mountain. The goal is to collect a mountain of toys to distribute to families in need each holiday season. Although they enjoy receiving toys for small children, this year, they want to encourage folks to remember babies, teens, and tweens. If you’re stumped for ideas, their website has many great suggestions to get you thinking. Help those who can’t help themselves this Christmas in Toronto.

CHUM Christmas Wish

Another gift-centric charity effort, the CHUM Christmas Wish, helps underprivileged children receive presents. Wish is one of Toronto’s longest-standing Christmas charity campaigns as it celebrates its 56th annual event this year. It’s also one of the easiest organizations to support. At the click of a button, you can make a donation in whatever amount you want, and Wish takes care of the rest.

Sunshine Centres for Seniors

Although the focus is mainly on children and families during the holidays, the season can be very hard on senior citizens who can’t spend time with loved ones. Sunshine Centres for Seniors is an excellent resource and encourages older folks during Christmas. Donating towards the cause serves to help those in need who are growing in age. It’s one of the most important Christmas charity campaigns in Toronto if you desire to help older Canadians.

Toronto Fire Fighters Toy Drive

Join forces with Toronto Fire Fighters as they collect toys for needy children. Just drop off your new, unwrapped toys at any fire station in the area. They request that you come by between 8 am and 8 pm to ensure firefighters are on hand to collect. While you’re out shopping, pick up an extra toy or two to donate to kids who may not get gifts otherwise this year.
